News from Innisfail

Luke Daley, a 22 year old professional boat builder, from Innisfail in Far North Queensland, recently came across our website and thought that we might be interested in some of the models that he has built? Apparently his family were one of the lucky ones - they came through cyclone Larry with just a broken window.

Here he is with an F.W.Woodnut designed Gameboat built to a scale of 1/25, it is just over 2 Foot long.

He is currently building another model, also a Woodnut design (the boat that he is building now) and he gladly gave me the plans to make a scale model.

The timber he chose to make it out of is maple, for the keel, stem, deadwood, hog and riser. The planking is of North Queensland Rose Alder and the ribs are silver ash.

He learnt his trade with a firm called Rob Hart Boatbuilders and then went on to build boats with F.W.Woodnutt and Co. Previously he has built two model trawlers, though they were not to scale they still looked good. He is starting a new model for the owners of the 'Kanahoee' which is a 14mtr Gameboat and will also be building that to 1/25 scale. He has promised more photos when he gets going on it.
